This workshop was absolutely incredible, Jenny is such an interesting, travelled, and educated teacher, and I feel like I learned more today than I learn most weeks - and I learn a lot most weeks!
~E.W.
After this workshop, I felt like I had found a better way to express my thoughts. I have better tools to engage with others and speak out. I also feel like I can be an activist even from home. Jenny gave me so much to think about and use, and she had a wonderful presentation for us. ~ M.G.
The workshop on finding your activist voice was incredibly helpful in first forming community, and also helping us find ways to open conversations productively. Jenny is an astounding educator and has the education and background to be an expert in speaking on how we can fight authoritarianism. ~T.T.
Hi, I'm Jenny - With The Courageous Citizen
9/11 changed my sense of security as a USAmerican.
January 6th shook my faith in the people of this country.
November 5, 2024 left me feeling paralyzed with doom and gloom.
I didn’t come to be an activist reluctantly. At 18, I declared I was going to fix the world – not some small part of it, but the entire world.
To do this, I majored in Political Science and Spanish in college and then went on to get a Master in International Administration.
As an undergrad (way back in the 1990s), I focused on the rise of authoritarian/ fascist/ oligarch rulers throughout Latin America and the Middle East.

I never expected to live through the demise of democracy in the US.
In 2003, I went on to write my Master’s thesis on white supremacy hate groups within the US.
-
One of my main points was if those underground groups ever got a megaphone and platform, all people in the US would suffer.
I spent 25 years working - in nonprofits, social justice organizations, my own consulting firm, and yes, even large multinational corporation - as a leader, coach, trainer, facilitator, and an HR Director.
I refuse to sit by and watch idly.
I refuse to let women’s place in society be relegated to a time of subservience.
I will die on the hill defending the fact that DIVERSITY is what makes us great.
I will do everything I can to help as many Courageous Citizens as possible live into their full potential as activists.
And so, The Courageous Citizen was born.
Staying true to my beliefs will ALWAYS be more important than any number of likes, follows, or subscriptions!
Are you ready to RISE up?
Are you ready to take a STAND for democracy?
Are you ready to PAVE a path to a brighter future?
Let's GO!
We are in this together!

Are your services only for females?Only for females - no. Catered to females - yes! Look, I'm a feisty, strong-willed, independent, highly educated female. And, I've raised two feisty, strong-willed, independent, highly educated daughters. (And, I was raised by a feisty, strong-willed, independent, highly educated mother.) One of my favorite phrases is "f*ck the patriarchy." I believe that women are as capable if not more capable than men in many fields. I believe women should be celebrated and exalted in all fields - not erased, put down, or degraded. I believe women should have complete autonomy over their bodies, their minds, and their lives. So, if you are male, or male identifying, and you are cool with all of this in both your words and your actions, then you are more than welcome here! If, however, you were offended by The Barbie Movie, if you boo Taylor Swift when she's shown at football games, if you don't understand why songs like "Labour (the cacaphony)" by Paris Poloma are important, if you ever say that a women had to sleep her way to the top, or if you come in here and try mansplaining anything to me or my community, you will get a swift kick to the butt as I show you out the door!

Is this a political organization?Yes and no. (See, I give answers like a politician!) Everything in life is touched by politics. Consumerism = political. Education = political. Travel = political. The list goes on and on. The Courageous Citizen was started to help people who are struggling with how the US has turned its back on democracy and is barreling towards oligarchy, authoritarianism, and/or fascism. My political views are not something I ever hide. And, I work hard to encourage others to not ignore politics but rather engage so that they understand what is happening in the world and to use their voice to make a difference. The Courageous Citizen does not focus on political analysis or news reporting. Instead, I help my community make sense of what is happening in the world of politics and how to stand up for democracy.

Why do you use the term USAmericans and symbols as replacements for some words?Let's start with USAmericans. One topic that I talk a lot about is the inflated idea of exceptionalism in the US - this idea that the US is the greatest country in the world, the richest country in the world, the best country in the world, the center of the world. One way that comes through is in calling the people of the US Americans. The problem with that is Canadians are also Americans. Every one in Central and South America are Americans. We here in the US have always been taught that we are "the" Americans. I have a problem with that. So, for lack of another name for people from this country, I have started using USAmericans to distinguish from all of the other Americans. As for why I use symbols in some words - that's a two part answer. One, I swear like a sailor. But, I don't usually write out the whole word. I drop a lot of f*ck bombs! Sorrynotsorry - I have seen some very scientific studies that say people who swear more are more intelligent, so I'm sticking with that story. I also use symbols in words to try to avoid getting stuck in the social media algorithm hellscape. We all know the overlords of social media are censoring writing, so the symbols give at least a little leeway to talk about what needs talked about without being hidden away for no one to ever see.
